The Indica Labs Layer Thickness tool facilitates semi-automatic measurement of layer thickness in tissues, such as the epidermis shown here. The tool automatically and objectively measures distance between two boundaries defined by the user making this an ideal tool for quick and accurate measurement of layer thickness in epidermis, as well as gastrointestinal epithelia and retina.
In the example shown, the upper and lower boundaries of the two epidermal layers to be measured have been annotated. The cornified layer measurements calculated by the tool are shown with red ruler bars and the Malpighian layer (spinous and basale layers) measurements are shown with green ruler bars. The user can control the frequency of measurements between the two annotation regions and HALO outputs each measurement as a separate annotation so that average thickness can be easily calculated.
